Ва́льтер Зе́ев Ла́кер (англ. Walter Ze'ev Laqueur; 26 мая 1921 (1921-05-26), Вроцлав, Веймарская республика — 30 сентября 2018, Вашингтон, США^[3]) — британскиий и американский историк и политолог еврейского происхождения, Ph.D. h.c. mult.

Родился 26 мая 1921 года в немецком городе Бреслау (ныне Вроцлав, Польша) в еврейской семье. В 1938 году бежал из Германии в Палестину. Его родители не смогли уехать и стали жертвами Холокоста. После окончания первого курса Еврейского университета в Иерусалиме он с 1939 по 1944 год работал в кибуце^[4]. В 1944 году он переехал в Иерусалим, где до 1953 года работал как журналист^[4]. С 1955 года жил в Лондоне.

С 1965 по 1994 год занимал должность директора Института современной истории и Библиотеки Винера в Лондоне^[5]. Он совместно с Джорджем Моссом основал «Журнал современной истории и исследований»^[англ.]. Стал основателем и главным редактором The Washington Papers^[англ.]. С 1969 года он был членом, а затем и председателем Совета по международным исследованиям (англ. International Research Council) при Центре стратегических и международных исследований в Вашингтоне (англ. Center for Strategic and International Studies, CSIS)^[5][6]. Был профессором истории идей в Брандейском университете (1968—1972) и профессором Джорджтаунского университета (1976—1988). Его приглашали читать лекции в Гарвардский, Чикагский, Тель-Авивский университеты и в Университет Джонса Хопкинса.

Всемирную известность Лакер приобрёл благодаря своим научным работам^[7]. Его основные работы связаны с историей Европы XIX и XX веков (история России, Германии и др.) и Ближнего Востока, немецкого молодёжного движения, сионизма, истории Израиля, коммунизма, Холокоста, фашизма и о холодной войне.

Его книги были переведены на многие языки. Вальтер Лакер считается одним из основателей^[8] изучения политического насилия, партизанской войны и терроризма.

Его комментарии по международным делам появлялись во многих американских и европейских газетах и журналах.
